THERIANTHROPES →

→ Therianthropes are usually born as such, but it's possible to pass the infection by either bitting or scratching a human and it must break skin. Therianthropy is not contagious when one is in human form.

→ Whether they be born or bitten, a therianthrope will always shift during their first full moon and every full moon after that. Unlike born weres, the first shift is always extremely painful for someone that was bitten or scratched, but the pain eventually dulls with time.

→ Although they are tied to the moon, weres are also able to shift at will after their first shift, but it takes practice. Some have been known to end up stuck in their animal form for weeks due to the lack of experience.

→ When shifted, they take on the form of a full fledged animal. There are no half man/half animal hybrids. They cannot speak in animal form, but they do maintain some level of their human conscious. Do note that like the act of shifting, retaining human consciousness when in animal form takes practice. A bitten were will not automatically be able to think like a human during their first shift. Even some elders have yet to perfect this ability.

→ Therianthropes can always smell each other. They can also smell vampires and vice versa. This allows them to sense each other's territories.

→ Therianthropes are always wild, predatory animals. Wolves, bears and large cats are amongst the more common with foxes and birds of prey being the most rare. There will be no domestic animal - dogs, cats, hamsters, you get the picture - therianthropes.

→ There is no such thing as a half breed or vampire/therianthrope hybrid. Wolves are always wolves. Bears are always bears. Etc. Etc.

→ Therianthrope blood tastes bitter and sour to vampires, so most do not like it. Enough bites from a therianthrope can kill a vampire over time, but only bites from the animal form are poisonous. In addition, there is no real cure for therianthrope poisoning, and it generally takes a week or two to get over depending on the vampire's age.

STRENGTHS Immortality. Heightened senses, speed, strength, stamina, healing, tolerance to pain, agility and grace - even when in human form. Do note that certain aspects are dependent on the type of therianthropy. Cats will be more graceful than dogs. Bears will be stronger than all other animals. Etc. Although they are not immune, they are less susceptible to human illnesses and disease. So yes, they are still capable of falling ill.

WEAKNESSES Silver burns, irritates and can scar on contact. If silver enters the body, it will cause silver poisoning and can potentially be fatal. The full moon is considered a weakness to some. Despite being immortal, a therianthrope can be killed by silver poisoning or severe head and/or heart trauma (bullet to the heart/head and decapitation for example). Limbs cannot regenerate.



HUMANS →

→ Humans are humans are humans are humans. Plain and simple. However, they are just as important to the plot of Ascent as the other species of character!

STRENGTHS Depends on how active they are with their lives - exercising, seeking further education, etc.

WEAKNESSES Mortality and like all mortals, they are susceptible to all mortal weaknesses, illnesses and disease.
